[Keylight]Why does the button LED do not light up on aftermarket Car radio DVD GPS Player?

Postby Andy » Wed Feb 03, 2016 7:13 am

Some clients who installed aftermarket universal car radio DVD GPS player may face issue that the key/button LED do not light, but in the advertisement shows there is button light there. When you face this kind of issue, first we should check if the button light power supply wire was been connected or not. Normally in this kind of device, the button light power supply wire is orange color and normally with label "ILLUMI" or "ILLUMINATION". Such as the following picture shows

Of course, we are not able to garrantee that, so the best way to define it is to check plug wiring diagram which is pasted on the radio body. Such as the following picture shows

This wire should be connected with the power supply wire of the original car instrument panel light. If it is not convenient and not easy to find the original car wire, then just joint it with the unit's cable harness switched red ACC wire.So when you turn on the car ACC,the red wire get power, and the radio will be turning on, and the button LED will also get power to light up. And once turned ACC off, the red wire will be disconnect from power, and the radio will be turned off, and the button LED will be turned off too.

In some special can bus decode box included after market car radio DVD GPS player, you may found that the ILLUMI wire is directly comes out from the can bus and input to the radio body. If you met problem on those item that do not have button light, even if you turned on the car instrument panel light, but the new radio's button still do not light, then you may need to do wiring modification to get power direct from the red ACC wire, instead of getting control by the can bus. Because the can bus do not receive the correct signal to give power supply to the ILLUMI wire.

PS: If you happen to have the Pumpkin Android device with the following user interface which is already built into the car dash and you do not want to remove again, then you can easily go to the setting----factory setting, input password 126, and enable the KEY light option there, and Apply----Exit----OK to reboot the radio to make the button light comes on without doing wire connection/wiring modification.
