Another odb issue

Postby Winston22 » Wed Jun 14, 2017 5:42 am

I can't figure out how to navigate, this custom bluetooth app is garbage. So far my steps have been:
1. turn car on, wait for stereo to turn on
2. go to bluetooth settings
3. plug in odb module - I have 4 different ones.
4. wait a while, it will see the module name
5. click around uselessly waiting for something to pop up and ask me for a pin, it never does
6. try odd things like change the device name and pin. that doesn't work

What am I doing wrong? Is the bluetooth that broken? I can see all of my bluetooth odb modules with 3 google phones, a google tablet, surface pro 4, precision m6800, iphone 5, ipad, ipad mini, ipad 3.

I spent the whole evening on this, made a flowchart, I have no idea. Can you just put the default android bluetooth settings back in? Give us a patch? I can understand the 4 digit pin thing 5 years ago. Any plans to fix that? I can use my older ones with 4 digit pins, that is fine for now if we can get it to work. I just don't like that they stay on when the car is off. Time to moderize.

See attached. it sees my nexus 5 just fine.

Step 1. Done
Step 2 - What? Where? That isn't the same application, screens, nothing. Please reference the screenshots in the post and read the text that I wrote.

In addition the only thing I can think to help is to say that I am not prompted for a pin when pressing any combinations of buttons when the ODB reader is detected. I will repeat, the readers ALL work fine with other devices. The bluetooth implementation on this stereo appears to be neutered for unknown reasons. I can't find settings, third party bluetooth control apps aren't working. I'll stop and get a usb bluetooth adapter on the way home to see if it is a hardware issue or whatever was done within android OS.

Could you guys just unlock the normal android bluetooth functionality? That or give me something that works? This is a little silly.

Hi,
though the imagine is different, the way to connect to the OBD is same.
For the OBD problem, maybe it is a compatibility problem .
We can't find your order number.
Did you bought the OBD from us?
You can also try to download the Torgue app on your phone, using your phone connect the OBD in the same way.
This way can help you confirm whether it is the unit compatibility problem.

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to reply to all of this.

As for the process being the same, I am missing a step somewhere. I do not have any prompts to enter a pin with an odb reader. When I connect a phone it asks for the pin on the phone. I've connected 3 phones now, they work well.

As for the odb units being bad, I have a lot. I've borrowed a few extras now as well. They all work with phones, tablets, computers as stated above.

What I am looking for is step by step instructions that tell me what to press and what to expect. When I search for a device and it shows up on the stereo, what next? Do I tap on it and expect a pin request? This interface isnt very intuitive.

One of the primary reasons I got this was to use torque and not have to mount my phone somewhere to watch it. Torque can't see the odb modules when the search function finds them. They also don't have the bluetooth icon as you can see on the photos above. Is there a way to get the default android bluetooth tools back? Can I root this stereo and go back to original android software and fix this myself?

Hi,
first ,insert the OBD.
Next, enter into bluetooth page, click the search button. When you see the OBD device name on the list, double click it and the unit will pop up a message to prompt you to input pin words and then connect sucessfully.
Then ,enter into Torgue app......
If your operation is wright. It should be the compatibility problem of the OBD.

I am stuck where you say double click. Double click doesn't work, double tap etc. If I hold it down I get the dialog box in the photo above with 3 button options. My choices are 1. OK, 2. <device name> 3. cancel. When pressed, 1+2 close the dialog box and I'm back to the list of devices. I don't have the opportunity to enter a pin.

At this point I'm open to anything. Do you have a specific brand/model that you would recommend? I can give my extras away, not too worried about it.
